TOPICS FOR YOUR ORAL EXAMS:

Have a careful look at these topic, which we have already dealt with in class. You should be ready to talk about ONE of them for at least one minute:

1) What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of living up to 100 years of age?


2) Describe a member of your family.


3) Describe yourself / or your ideal partner.


4) Men take more risks than women. Do you agree?


5) Do you agree that “modern life presents us with very few dangers”?


6) Tell me about a frightening experience that you have had.
(an accident/ getting lost/ encounter with an animal / severe weather / travelling

7) Tell me about a time when you or another person did something brave:
(rescued a pet / tried extreme sport / did something you were scared of / helped someone in danger)
Or a brave action that you have seen in a film or on TV, or read about in a book or newspaper.

8) Security cameras should be installed in all schools. Do you agree?


9) The government should impose stricter anti-smoking laws. What do you think?


10) Can you tell me about some sporting scandals that you have read about?

- Other grammar points: adjective order / so- such / too-enough / word-building: page 111 book. You can find some more practice on pages 10 of your book / page 7 of your workbook.

STARTER UNIT: PAST TENSES

2) Find here some notes about TIME CLAUSES in the past.

3) Some more practice with TIME CLAUSES in the pastwhen, till, until, as soon as, before, after.
 Remember that two past simple tenses can be used if there is an idea that the second action is the result of the first, and that it happened immediately afterwards.

She called the ambulance as soon as the accident happened.
I burst into tears when he asked her to marry him.

If it is important to show that the first action was completed before the second one began, the Past Perfect must be used for the action that happened first:

I had never travelled alone before I went to England

He didn’t leave the house until he had checked that all the windows were closed.
